Lindsay Lohan made a stab at yet another comeback this weekend by hosting “Saturday Night Live.” She doesn’t have a project to promote; she was just there to beg the American public to like her again. The fact that she even showed up was already a plus. But, we have to say, with all the jokes about her incarceration and bad girl reputation, Lohan did keep it together and add to the show.
The standout sketch of the evening, though, didn’t highlight her talents as much as it did those of Kristen Wiig, which has been the case ever since Wiig joined the “SNL” cast. As a take off of Bravo TV’s “Real Housewives” franchise, the skit depicted Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White and Rapunzel as the bitchy frenemies in “The Real Housewives of Disney.” Each one bore a passing resemblance to the classic staples in franchise. Jasmine (Nasim Pedrad), the financially suffering equivalent to Teresa Giudice of the New Jersey cast (“Jasmine and Aladin are broke. They used up all their wishes,” Cinderella says in the confessional) and Cinderella (Wiig) as troubled Kim Richards of the Beverly Hills cast.
“I don’t need to rub a lamp to get what I want,” Jasmine says as her tag line. Cinderella adds her own: “And I’m a huge f—kin’ mess.”
Taram Killam plays Cinderella’s closeted husband: “Here’s some good advice: never marry a man who’s really into shoes,” she says while slurping a martini.
Lohan, as Rapunzel seems to be positioned as the level-headed relatable one. That’s a tough one to buy, but the central idea of the sketch was ingenious and sure to be a classic.
