Maybin wreaks havoc on former team

All Aaron Maybin does is get sacks.

The former first-round pick and Bills castoff, who was cut from the team that drafted him this past August after two years without a sack, is showing his old team he’s not the reject they thought.

Maybin got two more sacks yesterday in helping to key the Jets defense.

“The position I was in a year ago and the things people were saying, how far [God] has brought me and how far I’ve come, it just feels good to be in this locker room right now enjoying ourselves,” Maybin said.

Maybin dodged questions about sticking it to his old team, simply saying of his two impact plays against the Bills, “Ask them, we’ll see.”

The assignment for Maybin is as simple as it is effective — run straight and hit the quarterback. A player once labeled a “bust” is now busting out in his new role.

His five sacks and three forced fumbles this year are a testament to the fact that he fits the Jets’ scheme well. But he says his showing on Sunday afternoon against his old team isn’t as important as elevating the Jets’ record to 6-5 with the win.

“At the end of the day, you want to go out and perform well,” Maybin said. “But when the team is put in a position where you have some must-win games ahead of you, especially in your division, it feels good to be able to go out there and have a good game in a situation like that.”
