Those are not tears of joy streaming down the faces of Sixers fans.
Or media members that cover the team, for that matter.
Meredith Marakovits, a La Salle graduate that has been covering the Sixers sideline beat for the last two seasons, has been named the YES Network's New York Yankees clubhouse reporter. She'll be doing pregame and postgame shows, in-game updates and a variety of other duties. Obviously, as much face time as YES can get her, they will — because, well, she's pretty easy on the eyes.
In addition to her work with Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, Marakovits had been doing some side radio work covering the Mets and Yankees on SNY and WFAN in New York, so she's got street cred in the Big Apple.
“I am excited about covering arguably the greatest franchise in sports, the New York Yankees, with its rich history and its continued commitment to excellence,” said Marakovits. “I am very familiar with the Yankees, having covered them on both TV and radio. I am also eager to join the YES team and work alongside some of the best talent in the business.”
So far, there has been no update on who will replace her on Sixers telecasts. Going by her Twitter account, it appears Thursday will be her final show in Philly.
For us here at Remember the Vet, we'll miss sitting behind this 5-foot-11 siren on press row during Sixers game ... but we wish you the best. I guess New York was due to steal one of ours after stealing so many of their top sports star over the past couple years.
