Mike Goodson is furiously rehabbing from recent surgery to repair ACL and MCL tears in his left knee knee and he tells Metro New York he expects to be ready for next season.

The surgery was done before the Jets’ bye week five weeks ago and the entire procedure on his ACL and MCL took roughly three hours. Goodson suffered the tears in Week 6 during a loss to the Steelers, a game where he had four carries for 29 yards before the injury.

Signed as a free agent this past offseason, he played in just two games for the Jets as he served a four-game suspension at the season’s start due to an arrest in May.

Goodson anticipates being ready for next preseason.

“They said I should be [ready],” Goodson said. “I am hoping to be ready for training camp.”

The focus of the rehab at this point, he says, is to get the motion back to where it was before the injury. He estimates that he regularly puts in four or five hours a day on the rehab in a routine he participates in at the team’s facility.

He said the work tires him nearly as much as a practice.

As for his Jets future, that remains very much clouded. The injury was a severe setback and, of course, there are pending legal issues Goodson has to deal with.

Last month he was indicted on weapons charges stemming from that summer arrest in Morris County, N.J.

Under new general manager John Idzik, the Jets have made an effort to place an emphasis on character after some incidents over the past few years, including the prominent arrest of star wide receiver Braylon Edwards on DUI charges. It remains to be seen if Goodson will return to the Jets next year after showing some potential in his limited run with the team.

“Whenever I talk to John, it is always good talks and stuff like that,” Goodson said. “I haven’t got any inclination that they don’t want me.”
