Mike Vick: ‘Optimistic’ about playing Sunday

The signs just keep pointing to yes for Mike Vick starting Sunday’s home opener against the New York Giants.

While the team hadn’t confirmed it (as of 1:30 p.m. Friday), the quarterback spoke with reporters and said he was “looking forward to playing.” He’ll officially be listed as questionable.

“There’s no reason to think I won’t play,” Vick said. “After two good days of practice, I am optimistic and I am looking forward to playing the New York football Giants.”

Vick denied an ESPN report that claimed he was being re-fitted for a Kevlar-padded helmet. Eagles athletic trainer Rick Burkholder said that Vick had passed all concussion testing and would not require any additional testing.

Translation: Unless Vick wakes up with a splitting headache Saturday or Sunday morning, then he’s playing Sunday. Eagles fans, breathe easy. Fantasy players, pencil No. 7 in your lineups.
