Momentum builder: Cody Ross’ home run beats Chicago in bottom of the ninth

Cody Ross had his shirt torn off and was doused in blue Gatorade Thursday night. He didn’t mind in the slightest.

Ross’ walk-off, three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Red Sox, arguably, their most emotional victory of the season Thursday night in a 3-1 win.

Boston is now 48-45 on the season and is back to .500 at Fenway Park (25-25).

Clay Buchholz was a workhorse for the Red Sox, working eight innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits. He also struck out six.

Alfredo Aceves earned the win, despite giving up two hits in the ninth.

Boston will host Toronto this weekend.
