More intense Reid breaks Birds camp

Andy Reid wrapped up the team’s full-team, minicamp Thursday by having his players work on red-zone drills. After practice, the coach gave a brief state-of-the-team address. The Eagles are off until rookies report to Lehigh for training camp on July 22.

“I love the energy and mindset right now,” said Reid, noting that he had 100-percent attendance. “For nine weeks, these guys have been coming in here and grinding it. This is going to be a tough training camp for them, I’ve talked to the team about that.”

Despite there being no contact during these spring minicamps — it’s a glorified passing camp, with players running around in shorts, no pads — Reid believes it sets the foundation for accomplishing their goals — the ultimate one, of course, being the Super Bowl.

“You get all of those questions answered and again, depending on how you go about teaching it and how you go about defining your football team and how they attack that, that gives you the foundation to go win the Super Bowl,” Reid said.

Several players noted there was a different vibe at this year’s camp. Unlike last season, they had a full nine weeks to get to know each other. DeSean Jackson also commented that Reid seems more intense.

“I just feel the atmosphere is different,” Jackson said. “I just think it’s a special team this year.”
