Nets top Celtics in Pierce, Garnett return

Although much of the attention was on Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett and their video tributes in their first time back at TD Garden since being traded to the Nets this summer, there was a game between the two teams.

In an ugly affair, the Nets clipped the Celtics 85-79 Sunday night. The two teams are going in opposite directions as the Celtics have now lost 14 of their last 16 games and the Nets have won five straight and 10 of their last 11.

Rajon Rondo had his best game since his return, coming close to a triple-double recording 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in 30 minutes of game action. Brandon Bass led the C's in the loss finishing with 17 points, while Chris Johnson and Gerald Wallace added 12.

Andray Biatche led the Nets with 17 points in the win.

The Celtics will be in action again Tuesday night (7:30, CSNNE) in New York against the Knicks.

What they'll be saying: It was all about the video tributes to Pierce and Garnett at the Garden Sunday night. Garnett's came during the second timeout into the game and Pierce's came at the end of the opening quarter. Both were very emotional and drew loud, standing ovations from the sellout crowd. For the game itself, both Pierce and Garnett had six points respectively. It was an ugly game all-around as the Nets shot 39 percent from the field, while the C's were even worse at 38 percent.
