New neighbors arriving on PBS Kids

A new generation of children will now get the chance to experience Fred Rogers’ magical world with the new PBS Kids series, “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.”

PBS announced the pickup of the series — the first produced by The Fred Rogers Company since “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” — at the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday. Fully immersed in the same Neighborhood of Make Believe parents know and love, the new animated series stars four-year-old Daniel Tiger, son of the original Daniel Tiger, who invites the audience to learn and play with him and his friends.

The multi-platform series will also include an interactive website and games, all using musical strategies grounded in Rogers’ landmark curriculum and music. “‘Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood’ fills a critical gap in children’s media today: modeling the behaviors and habits that kids need in order to excel in formal learning settings — essentially, learning how to learn,” said Lesli Rotenberg, Senior Vice President, Children’s Media, PBS. “It’s important for kids to learn pro-social skills like cooperation and listening, so that when they start school they are able to focus on the material at hand.”

“Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” will premiere Fall 2012 as part of the PBS Kids pre-school lineup.
