Last week, Jets punter Ryan Quigley was the only one in the locker room among the team’s soccer fans who predicted the United States would open up their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over Ghana.

Quigley nailed the score and the result, something several of his teammates have heard about throughout the past week.

The Americans play a desperate Portugal team Sunday afternoon in the jungles of the Amazon. In their World Cup opener, Portugal’s Pepe earned a red card and had two defenders go down in the first half in a 4-0 loss to the Germans. A loss would likely eliminate Portugal from the World Cup, meaning the Americans will face a very tough test.

The Jets locker room’s predictions for the Americans’ second World Cup game:

Breno Giacomini, right tackle
United States 2, Portugal 1
“United States with a late goal in this one. I think it will be really even early on, but the United States can hang in there. They have to be solid defensively. I still think Brazil wins the tournament.”

Leger Douzable, defensive end
United States 2, Portugal 1
“I know no Jozy [Altidore] for the U.S. but I still think we can win. Portugal has a lot of injuries, a lot of issues right now.”

Ryan Quigley, punter
United States 1, Portugal 0
“Tim Howard gets the shutout.”

Nick Bellore, linebacker
United States 1 – Portugal 1
“Tough with Jozy out.”
