New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.'s ankle injury has not bettered.

In fact, it looks like the explosive playmaker might not be able to suit up for Sunday night's season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday morning, "there is real doubt whether he will play," while NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on-air that the receiver is a "long shot" to suit up.

Beckham initially picked up the injury during the second week of the preseason against the Cleveland Browns when he was cut down at the knees by Briean Boddy-Calhoun after going up for a catch:

The extent of the injury, despite it occurring three weeks ago, has not been disclosed. That's why Beckham's status has been up in the air leading up to Week 1.

If in fact Beckham is not able to go, the Giants do have an embarrassment of riches within the receiving game. Newly acquired Brandon Marshall will slot into the No. 1 spot while Sterling Shepard and rookie tight end Evan Engram would be expected to see a bump in targets.

But against a Cowboys team that received the boost of discovering that running back Ezekiel Elliott will dodge a six-game suspension, the Giants need all the firepower it can get on the road against the NFC East divisional favorites.
