The New York Islanders had done a brilliant job stifling Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid for the first 60 minutes of their Tuesday night tilt at the Barclays Center.

But then there was overtime.

With the score tied at one apiece — with goals coming from Leon Draisaitl and former Oiler Jordan Eberle just three minutes apart from each other in the second period — the three-on-three period of extra time provided the reigning NHL MVP to shine in Brooklyn.

Just moments after John Tavares could not hook up with Mathew Barzal in front of the Oilers goal during the first seconds of overtime, Draisaitl and McDavid were on a two-on-one break against Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy.

Then this happened:

It was McDavid’s sixth tally of the season and one of his finest as he was able to finish off the beautiful spinning feed from Draisaitl.

“We were just on a bit of a break and Leddy’s an incredible skater,” McDavid said. “He was able to get in front of me and I was able to drop it to Draisaitl…and he made a great play back.”
