The New York Yankees lived to fight another day after a come-from-behind American League Wild Card victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. But there isn’t much time for celebration seeing as the big, bad Cleveland Indians are waiting for them in the American League Divisional Series (ALDS).
Coming off the second-best season in franchise history with 102 wins, Cleveland has been the hottest team in baseball over the past two months of the season, including a 22-game win streak that spanned from late August to mid-September.
They have one of the leading candidates for the American League Cy Young Award in pitcher Corey Kluber and a deep fearsome offense that contains big bats like Edwin Encarnacion, Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez and Carlos Santana.
It’s a far deeper and better team compared to what the Yankees faced in the Wild Card Game. And while regular season stats go out the window in the postseason, it must be noted that the Indians won five-of-seven games against New York in 2017.
With the Yankees grabbing a huge win to snag some momentum heading into the ALDS though, anything can happen.
