NFL Week 5 Preview

Three Games of the Week

Philadelphia at Buffalo: Wacky stat from Vegas — the Eagles are the first one-win team to be favored over a three-win team on the road in Week 5. Vick’s 3-0 versus the AFC as an Eagles starter, but that Philly defense can’t contain pass catching running backs like Fred Jackson.

The Pick: Bills 27, Eagles 23

Oakland at Houston: Andre Johnson is out, but the Texans are playing like a well-oiled machine. Arian Foster’s healthy and the Texans defense leads the AFC with 12 sacks this season. Take Houston.

The Pick: Texans 27, Raiders 17

Tampa Bay at San Francisco: Josh Freeman may not be the starter on your fantasy team, but Bucs fans sure love him. He’s now won five of his last six starts and has more fourth-quarter comeback wins through 34 career starts than any quarterback in NFL history. Cross-country trip on six days rest, though?

The Pick: 49ers 24, Buccaneers 20

Fact of the Week: In five of the past 10 seasons, a team that has started 2-2 or worse has advanced to the Super Bowl. Three of those clubs — 2001 Patriots (1-3), 2003 Patriots (2-2) and 2007 Giants (2-2) — went on to win the Super Bowl.

Quote of the Week: “The good news is we didn’t give the game away this time. We just got beat. So that’s something, right? I don’t know. We got to figure out a way to win. We’re 0-4, and that sucks.” —Vikings defensive end Jared Allen after Sunday’s 22-17 loss to the previously winless Chiefs
