A year ago, it was an injury to David Krejci just as the Bruins seemed poised to end their 38-year Stanley Cup drought that made everything come undone.
It’s a bit ironic, then, that this year’s run is being hampered by another injury suffered in a series against the Flyers.
But maybe not for long.
Patrice Bergeron practiced for the third straight day yesterday after sustaining a mild concussion in the clinching Game 4 against Philly on May 6.
He could potentially be cleared to play tonight in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Lightning at the Garden.
But concussions are always tricky to handle, and head coach Claude Julien was noncommittal about Bergeron’s status after the team’s practice yesterday.
“We’re going through the protocol of what he has to go through,”?Julien said. “There’s not much more to update you guys on, except that I think when he is ready to go, I think you guys will know it. It’s just something that you can’t predict, how quickly or how slow it’s going to be. It’s just one of those situations where, right now, you see him going through what you saw him going through today’s skating. But that’s protocol, and right now, we’re not ready to make any comments.”
With Bergeron’s playing status uncertain, and the Bruins down 1-0 in the best-of-seven series, Rich Peverley is expected to replace Chris Kelly on the second line with Mark Recchi and Brad Marchand.
