NHL Playoffs: Bruins open series on Saturday

The Bruins’ Eastern Conference finals series against the Tampa Bay Lightning will begin Saturday.

The Bruins’ Eastern Conference finals series against the Tampa Bay Lightning will begin Saturday, the team officially announced yesterday.

The B’s and Lightning had been awaiting the end of the Western Conference semifinals before an official announcement was made.

The Vancouver Canucks will meet either the San Jose Sharks or the Detroit Red Wings in the next round there. San Jose led Detroit 3-2 going into last night’s late Game 6.

In the East, expect plenty of late nights. Six of the seven games between Boston and Tampa Bay are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. — pray there’s no overtime if you want to be productive in the office the next day.

Games 1, 2, 5 and 7 will be held at the Garden, due to the Bruins’ higher seed (No. 3 vs. No. 5).

Meanwhile, Patrice Bergeron is said to be improving after suffering a concussion.
