Not learning from his mistakes

When inept American office temp Todd Margaret agrees to head up U.K. sales for a new (possibly toxic) energy drink named Thunder Muscle, it’s actually not the worst predicament he could get himself into.

When inept American office temp Todd Margaret agrees to head up U.K. sales for a new (possibly toxic) energy drink named Thunder Muscle, it’s actually not the worst predicament he could get himself into. It’s just the catalyst in a series of cringe-worthy follies that wind up threatening the entire city of London in David Cross’ new comedy series, “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret.”

“Every episode takes place the very next day, so there is a finite amount of time in which to tell this story,” Cross says of the six-part series, which he created, wrote and stars in. The show begins with Todd moving to London “and it really does get to a crazy, extreme place,” he teases.

Cross adds that the immediate method of storytelling makes this comedy “more about the story and less a workplace comedy where we make fun office workers,” though Todd spends much of his time with his new assistant, Dave, played by Blake Harrison, who enables his boss to get himself into such terrible situations.

“Dave gives Todd quite a few opportunities to kind of come clean,” Harrison reveals of the title character, whose perpetual little lie-telling snowballs. “And because he doesn’t take him up, it’s like, ‘Let’s see how far we can push this.’ Dave gets amusement out of Todd almost setting himself up for a fall in pretty much all these situations. Dave just likes to give him a gentle nudge in the right direction.”
