New York City FC and Orlando City have yet to play a game in MLS yet, but Orlando City scored a clear victory on Thursday.
Shortly after the announcement by New York City FC that they had signed former English international Frank Lampard, Orlando SC took to social media and took a shot at the lack of buzz around the signing.
The MLS expansion side reminded the world of just how big a signing Brazilian star Kaka earlier this month with a photo of Kaka mobbed by fans juxtaposed against Lampard.
Orlando City posted a photo of Kaka being greeted by hundreds of boisterious fans at the airport in Orlando. Fans sang, chanted and waved flags as Kaka dutifully wove himself through the crowd with a full security detail in toe.
Inset in that photo is one of Lampard, shown presumably at the airport sometime this week, without the same welcome. In fact, he looks a bit bored.
On Thursday, NYCFC announced Lampard as their second designated player signing, joining former Spanish international David Villa in what is slowly turning into a geriatric squad.
