Patriots ‘turn’ in win

What went right …

1. Goal-line stand

The Chargers had first-and-goal from the Patriots’ 5-yard line, looking to take a 14-10 lead in the second quarter. The Patriots had other thoughts. They stopped the Chargers on four straight plays.

2. ‘Big’ interception

The Chargers were marching in the second quarter when 325-pound Vince Wilfork picked off Philip Rivers. It’s safe to say Wilfork’s first career interception was worth the weight. Sorry.

What went wrong …

1. Key injuries

It’s too soon to tell how seriously injured players are, but safety Patrick Chung (hand), tight end Aaron Hernandez (knee), cornerback Kyle Arrington (head) and punter Zoltan Mesko (knee) were all banged up.

2. Shaky pass defense

It wasn’t really a surprise, but both teams lit up the scoreboard, accounting for 56 points combined. Brady threw for over 400 yards, while Rivers threw for 378. That’s the new NFL.
