Pedroia, Red Sox beat Mariners in extra innings

Dustin Pedroia’s eighth inning solo home run to left tied Sunday’s game in Seattle, 1-1, and David Ortiz’ RBI sac fly in the 10th plated Ryan Kalish as the Red Sox escaped Safeco Field with a 2-1 victory.

Starter Felix Doubront pitched 4.1 innings, allowing just one run on three hits. The Boston bullpen was phenomenal, as Matt Albers, Scott Atchison and Vincente Padilla (who earned the win), each came up big. Alfredo Aceves closed the Mariners out and picked up his 19th save of the season.

Boston improved to 42-37 on the season and is currently 6.5 games out of first place behind the first place Yankees (48-30) and second place Orioles (42-36).

The Red Sox continue their week-long West Coast swing Monday night in Oakland against the A’s (10:07, NESN).
