2018 Fantasy Football Advice: Carson Wentz, Zach Ertz

Zach Ertz Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Football

We are officially heading into the third week of the NFL preseason, which means another step closer to the start of the fantasy football season.

All this month, football fans across the country are holding fantasy football drafts, with many hoping that their top picks pan out and get them to a championship.

One team in particular, who will have a couple of top-tier fantasy football players are the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Last year, the Eagles had numerous players that paid huge dividends in fantasy.

Quarterback Carson Wentz was a must-start QB1 option every week, along with tight Zach Ertz, and the Eagles defense. If you had any of three, there was a good chance that you were competitive in your respective fantasy football league.

Not to mention, wide receiver Nelson Agholor was a great waiver wire pickup. But what about this season? Who on the Eagles will have a big season fantasy football wise?

Here are three Eagles players who need to be on your fantasy football team:

1. Carson Wentz – If it weren’t for a late-season ending knee injury, Wentz would’ve been named league MVP and probably the top-scorer in fantasy football. Last season, Wentz passed for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

If you are interested in what that equaled out to fantasy wise, Wentz had racked up 282 fantasy points. This was a vast improvement from his rookie season, where he only scored 213 fantasy points.

According to Pro Football Reference, Wentz scored the sixth-most fantasy points last season in standard leagues and was the fifth best quarterback.

Heading into this season, there were some concerns about the former second overall pick not playing in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons.

However, those concerns should be put to bed as Wentz split first-team reps on Sunday with Nick Foles. Do not hesitate to take Wentz early in your fantasy football draft, he is certainly worth the price of admission.

You cannot pass up on a quarterback that scored over 20 points eight times last season.

2018 Fantasy Projections: 318 completions, 3,730 passing yards, 26 passing TD’s, 11 INT’s, 276 rushing yards, 2 rushing TD’s, 267.4 fantasy points

2. Zach Ertz – After you draft your quarterback, you need a reliable pass-catching target. This is where Ertz comes into play.

Last season, the veteran tight end finally had that great year everybody was expecting from him. Ertz had 74 receptions (110 targets) for 824 yards and career-high eight touchdowns.

Fantasy wise, the former Stanford product was a must-start every week, scoring 128 fantasy points. Coincidentally, each season that Ertz has been in the NFL, his production and fantasy numbers have increased.

In 2017, Ertz scored over 10 points in five games and was a shoe-in for at least 8-9 fantasy points per game.

2018 Fantasy Projections: 76 receptions, 848 receiving yards, 6 receiving TD’s, 122 fantasy points

3. Mike Wallace – There is a slight possibility that Jeffery might begin the regular season on the PUP list as he is still rehabbing from torn rotator cuff surgery. If this is the case, then you might be inclined to draft Wallace somewhere in your draft.

The veteran wide receiver was signed in the offseason to a one-year deal and to be Torrey Smith’s replacement. Last season with the Baltimore Ravens, Wallace had 52 receptions (92 targets) for 748 yards and four touchdowns.

Back in 2016, Wallace had over 1,000 receiving yards. If he could replicate the same performance this season that would be amazing. With Jeffery maybe on the shelf for a considerable amount of time, there will be opportunities for Wallace and the other wide receivers to contribute.

Last year in fantasy football, the 6-foot wide out was good for only 99 points, but did have five games of scoring 10 or more points. Wallace is a good late round pick or if you can get him on waivers do it!

2018 Fantasy Projections: 36 receptions, 563 receiving yards, 4 receiving TD’s, 78 fantasy points
