Usually, we like to make plays on teams the week after a loss. They should be angry, have practiced better all week, more focused, more motivated. However, there is an exception.
When you're expecting to play for a National Title and then get tripped off, it's often hard to recover from. Some players may feel like the season has less meaning now, making them disheartened instead of more motivated. There's often a hangover.
Which leads us to this week's picks:
OHIO ST +7 vs. Wisconsin - After last week's loss at Michigan State, Wisco knows they can't get to the title game out of the Big 10. But the Buckeyes should still see this one as the Super Bowl.
KANSAS STATE +13.5 vs. Oklahoma - The Sooners' stunning loss at home to Texas Tech last week has to have them in a daze. We talked about this line in the previous post, but Oklahoma's hangover will be too much to overcome.
PATRIOTS -3 at Steelers - Tom Brady absolutely owns the Steelers. In his last four meetings against them, he's thrown nine touchdowns against one interception and completed 70.9 percent of his passes. The Patriots have won four of the last five meetings, with three of those five games coming in New England. That's because the Steelers' weakness is corner play and the Patriots' strength is the passing game.
BROWNS +9 at 49ers - I know the Niners are 5-1 and 5-0-1 against the spread, but I'm not buying it. Evan Moore has a big game as the Browns sneak inside the number.
