Playing the Field: Ashley Judd steals phones, Best dunk ever?

Welcome to Metro Sport’s first daily edition of Playing the Field. Every morning we will catch you up on the gossip surrounding the sports world, as well as some things you might have missed the night before. Think of it as everything you want to read while constantly looking over your back for your boss. Don’t worry, he (or she, we’re equal opportunity around here) is looking at it too.

Best alley-oop ever?

We don’t make claims of greatness lightly around here. (This is probably not true.) It’s likely you missed the Nets’ double alley-oop courtesy of NBA Slam Dunk Champion Gerald Green and Kim Kardashian slam dunked champion Kris Humphries. Check it out:

Why are more people not talking about this? Green caught a 3/4-court alley-oop from Deron Williams, did a 180 while throwing the ball off the backboard, and setting up Humphries for the two-handed slam. OK, maybe it’s not the greatest dunk ever, but it’s certainly the most creative in-game dunk ever.

Gratuitous Kate Upton story

The New York Post’s Page Six was nice enough to report on SI Swimsuit cover girl Kate Upton’s feud with fellow models. Apparently there was a whole brouhaha over where Upton was supposed to stand in a photograph. Seriously.

If you read the story — and why would you with so many Upton videos — you’ll come to the same conclusion we did. This story was an excuse to put up Kate Upton pictures and videos. Well done, Page Six, well done.

Jones gets Judd-ged

Everyone knows Ashley Judd is Kentucky’s biggest celebrity fan. If you watched their walkover win against Iowa State then you know she fancies herself quite the basketball analyst too. Well, Judd often visits players in the Kentucky locker room. Here, for instance, is Ms. Judd talking to Terrence Jones after a game about a month ago. If you note the expression on his face it reads along the lines of, “Why is this old lady talking to me? And who let her into the locker room?”

Well Judd took it a step further after the Iowa State win this weekend. She stole Terrence Jones’s phone. This isn’t necessarily surprising to me, but that’s largely because I thought Winona Ryder and Ashley Judd were the same person for about 10 years.

Judd was in the locker room after the win and she absconded with Jones’s cell phone. Like, literally left with it. We’re not sure how it happened, but Jones was nice enough to apologize on Twitter for anyone who was trying to get in touch.
