Playing the Field: DeSean Jackson’s rap battle, plus Serena’s love cruise

Rappers want to be athletes, while athletes want to be rappers. It’s not a stereotype, it’s pretty much fact at this point. Remember when Master P tried out for the Denver Nuggets? Or have you ever listened to the lyrical stylings of Atlanta Hawks guard Lou Williams? It’s all good, we would do the same thing if we had the money and means.

Recently, Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson and Philly star rapper Meek Mill took it a step further by participating in a rap battle. OK, in total fairness, the battle pits Meek Mill’s 16-year-old protégé up against a lyricist on Jackson’s Jaccpot music label. The kicker? The two sides put $10,000 on the line, then — after some trash talking on Twitter — Meek Mill donated his winnings to a impoverished Philadelphia high school.

Did we mention that Mike Vick and T.I. served as judges? Yes, this was the most talked about party in Philadelphia Tuesday night — and might be the most talked about event of the year.

The scene kind of reminded us of Paul Newman playing Tom Cruise in pool in The Color of Money — only, the two rappers aren’t of equal talent. Actually, maybe it’s more like the end of White Men Can’t Jump, with Meek Mill’s rapper, Lil’ Snupe, playing the Wesley Snipes role. He knows Jackson’s rapper can’t dunk, but they go at it anyway.

Anyway, you be the judge. It’s worth your time, trust us …

Texans gone wild over Air Jordans

It’s Dec. 21, 2012, so if you’re reading this blog then the Mayans were wrong. The world didn’t end and we all live to enjoy another day of walking down the shoe aisle at Modell’s. Just be careful what brand of sneakers you buy.

In Texas, a crowd of 300-400 people pushed and bullied its way to get their hands on the newest pair of Air Jordans, according to NBCDFW.com. The Retro 11 cost around $200, but can go for twice that much on eBay. The scene got so intense that a police officer felt the need to use pepper spray. Yes, he maced people over Air Jordans.

“Getting pepper sprayed in the eye is like the worst feeling ever,” Aaron Garcia told NBCDFW.com. “Like three times too. It sucks, because I stayed up the whole night trying to get these.”

Wait, ummm, maybe the end of days is here.

Serena’s booty on a boat

This one needs no build-up or analysis. Like they say, a picture says a thousand words. Or, like Kanye West says, “My psychic told me she gonna have an ass like Serena …” We will tell you that the guy in the photo is Serena Williams’ boyfriend/tennis coach.

Happy Holidays everyone!
