Playing the Field: Nick Lachey gets in a fight at a Chargers game and 2012 is the year of the golf heckler

The San Diego Chargers are on the fast-track to Los Angeles.

Know how I know? Because this past Sunday they achieved a brand new level of franchise futility. Yup, they got “Boy Band Humiliated.”

Nick Lachey, the former 98 degrees member and Jessica Simpson: The Good Years – love interest, humiliated the Chargers fan base on Sunday by having a heated verbal exchange with a pack of San Diegans and living to Tweet about it. Oh ya, and the team he was rooting for in the half-empty Qualcomm Stadium (the Cincinnati Bengals) won.

TMZ reported that Lachey called a female Chargers fan a “f***ing b****” after her male companion made a joke about his boy band background.

The male companion, obviously decked out in an Igor Olshansky jersey, told TMZ that Lachey and his group of Bengals buddies cracked on how Olshansky didn’t last too long with the Chargers.

The male companion then reportedly cracked, “He lasted longer than your boy band” (admittedly a Hall of Fame comeback).

But @NickSLachey got the last laugh on Twitter following the Bengals victory.

“Just got kicked out of the chargers stadium and couldn’t be prouder! Go Cincy Bengals.”

“Bengals win again. i’d talk trash to everyone in SD, but what’s the point? you already had me kicked out of the stadium and you still lost.”

OK, so maybe Lachey isn’t that witty. But he is the voice of the voiceless – a celebrity Cincinnati Bengals fan. For that alone, he deserves kudos.

Here’s the “fight” if you can take anything away from it:

2012: The year of the golf heckle

No profession mails in the last couple weeks of December quite like the media.

Yup, it’s “Year in Review” time: The great American tradition that annually attempts to create debate by ranking the “Best” or “Worst” stories of the year and routinely generates little-to-no-reaction from the general population.

So while Sports Illustrated will tell you next week that 2012 was the “Year of LeBron,” we’re warning you ahead of time to not be fooled. Make no mistake, 2012 was all about “the golf heckler.”

Here is our most recent example of golf heckling creativity, when a fan yells “MASHED POTATOES” to Graeme McDowell and McDowell returns the heckling favor with a brief jerking motion (0:17).

The Olympic Club in San Fran is where most of the magic happened this year, as the site of the 2012 U.S. Open more or less became the ECW Arena of golf. Here is some guy doing his best Chewbacca impression (always hilarious):

And of course, the granddaddy of ’em all – the once-in-a-lifetime Birdman Cometh (also at the Olympic Club).
