Playing the Field: Serena does the 'Crip Walk'

It was a weird second weekend at the London Olympics.

It was a weird second weekend at the London Olympics.

The Brits had a tremendous Saturday as Mo Farah won the men's 10,000 meters, Jessica Ennis won the women's heptathlon and Greg Rutherford won the men's long jump. As Bill Simmons put it, "In 2012, the year of the Mayans, we now have a redheaded British guy as our men's Olympic long jump champ." Rutherford actually looks a bit like Prince Harry to be honest. Anyway, we now have an Olympic champion who goes by the nickname The Ginger Wizard, of which he's all too proud to point out on his Twitter page.

If the Brits dominating track and field wasn't strange enough, we also got a tremendous dance performance out of women's singles gold medalist Serena Williams.

It probably didn't make the posh Brits at Wimbledon happy, but her sister Venus sure enjoyed it. The ladies are from Compton after all. Yes, the name Crip walking comes the gang of the same name, but it's a dance people. Don't read into it more than that. (We've already got writers mentioning Serena's half sister was actually killed by a member of the Crips gang.) Every rapper does it. Lil Jon crip walks, people. Lil Jon!

Speaking on the strange topic, we actually saw a man with no legs qualify for the semifinals in the 400 meters as well. To be fair, Oscar Pistorius is no regular dude. I'm still somewhat undecided on the "unfair advantage" topic, because it is a slippery slope. But for now, just enjoy this race.

No P in O-O-L

Transitioning more from weird to downright gross, we learned this weekend that Ryan Lochte had peed in the London Olympics pool.

He told Ryan Seacrest in an interview, "There's something about getting into chlorine water that just automatically makes you go." Excuse me? I don't spend as much time in a pool as Lochte, but I've never felt that urge.

Is this some kind of tactic to psyche out your opponents? Because it didn't work Ryan. Remember this ladies. The man of your dreams cannot control his bladder when he jumps in the pool.

@MetroNYSports. He's never peed in a pool. OK, maybe once. Or twice. But I was very young!
