When it comes to the Jets, we just can’t look away.
From HBO’s “Hard Knocks” to a foot fetish video, brushes with the law to high profile celebrity flings, New York’s not-so-successful but certainly headline-grabbing football team is something we can’t take our eyes off. And now, finally, something worth whistling to as well.
The Network of Champions, a channel on YouTube, enjoys making parodies of absurdity in sports, which is a perfect combination with this Jets team. And nothing is more fitting than the unusual quarterback situation involving Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow, now immortalized in song parody.
And because you surely will be humming this tune — sung to the tune of Maroon 5’s “Payphone” — on your way to MetLife Stadium for your tailgate, the sometimes sacrilegious but rather witty lyrics:
I’m in the end zone watching Tim Tebow
Hoping that someone helps with his aim
Don’t care that Rex is playing Mark Sanchez
Jesus is trying to win some games
Yeah, I, I know it’s hard to remember
The Jets that we used to be
It’s even harder to picture
That you’re not starting for me
Your stats are too bad to make it
But are they too bad to try?
And on those downs that you wasted
All of your passes fell down
Hey, No. 15
Let’s take NYC
Wait, I mean Jersey
Get down on one knee
And do the Tebow
You won’t have to throw
Much in paradise
I’m in the end zone watching Tim Tebow
Hoping that someone helps with his aim
Don’t care that Rex is starting Mark Sanchez
Jesus is trying to win some games
They say that you’re a virgin, is it true?
It must be hard to meet girls in home school
Will you win a Super Bowl or two?
Or will another Manning upstage you?
Too bad NOC didn’t come a decade earlier. Would have loved to hear them try to rhyme something with Vinny Testaverde.
