Yankees 6, Rays 2
Jorge Posada returned to the lineup and the Yankees returned to the win column with a 6-2 victory over Tampa Bay last night.
Posada started for the first time since forcefully asking out of Saturday’s lineup in Boston. The 39-year-old designated hitter went 2-for-3 with a double in the seven-hole as managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner looked on from his luxury box.
Posada wore a huge smile during batting practice but was tight-lipped before the game, saying he only discovered he was back in the lineup yesterday afternoon.
Alex Rodriguez unleashed two home runs to help the Yankees snap a six-game skid, while Derek Jeter, who backed Posada’s right to sit out, went just 1-for-5.
