English Premier League side Everton announced on their website shortly after 5 p.m. that midfielder Tim Cahill is leaving the club to join the Red Bulls.
A source close to the situation confirmed the deal to Metro New York.
Cahill, a 32-year-old midfielder, made 32 appearances in all competitions for the “Toffees” and scored three goals. A hard working, industrious midfielder, Cahill became a fan favorite at Goodison Park for his strong, deep runs into the attacking third and his passion for the team.
He was given a red card after his final match with Everton following an altercation with a Newcastle player.
An Australian international, Cahill will likely be the Red Bulls’ third and final designated player.
