That’s how the Red Sox feel Sunday evening after a Shane Victorino grounder to Blue Jays first baseman Josh Thole was booted, scoring Jonathan Diaz as the Sox’ winning run. They beat the Jays, 5-4.
Toronto tied things up at four in the top of the 9th when Jose Bautista crushed a solo homer of Koji Uehara.
The Sox got things started in the second inning, scoring three runs off a Ryan Lavarnway ground rule double and another double by Brandon Snyder.
The Jays got two back in the fourth inning thanks to a Colby Rasmus single that scored Edwin Encarnacion. Maicer Izturis hit into a fielder’s choice that scored one more.
Boston scored its fourth run in the fifth inning when Jonny Gomes doubled in Jacoby Ellsbury.
Ryan Dempster pitched into the 6th inning, going 5.1 innings while giving up two runs on seven hits, three walks, and striking out two. Craig Breslow pitched 0.2 innings, but gave up a home run to Jose Reyes in the 7th inning before being relieved by Alex Wilson.
Jays starter Mark Buehrle went 6.0 innings giving up four runs on seven hits, a walk, and four strikeouts.
Uehara got the win despite blowing the save.
