The Red Sox won’t play at Fenway Park again until Aug. 14, and the break is probably a good thing considering the Sox have lost five of their last six games at the old ball yard.

Boston will begin an eight-game road trip Tuesday when it faces the Cardinals in St. Louis in a rematch of last year’s World Series. The Cardinals are in much better shape these days than the Red Sox as the birds were buyers at the MLB trade deadline. In fact, St. Louis poached starter John Lackey from the Sox, though Lackey won’t face his old team this week. Lackey made his Cardinals debut Sunday night against Milwaukee, throwing seven innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits in a 3-2 St. Louis win.

The Cardinals gave up fan favorite Allen Craig in the Lackey deal and Craig has played in one game so far with the Sox. He registered a double against the Yankees last Friday but an ankle injury caused him to miss Saturday and Sunday’s games against New York. It is likely that Craig will see action against his former ’mates this week.
