Red Sox take Saturday night’s game at Wrigley

The Red Sox allowed the Cubs to climb back into Saturday night’s game at Wrigley Field but ultimately held off Chicago, coming away with a 4-3 victory.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia provided the pop at the plate for Boston as he belted a two-run homer in the fourth to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead. Will Middlebrooks and Scott Podsednik would also drive in runs on a pair of singles.

Jon Lester had a fine start for Boston as he worked 6.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight.

Chicago’s Luis Valbuena was the one Cub in synch offensively as his three-run homer in the seventh triggered the failed comeback attempt.

Boston is now 32-33 on the season.
