Red Sox take series from Orioles with 6-5 win

The Red Sox (22-22) were able to take two of three from the first place Baltimore Orioles (28-17) this week with the second victory coming Wednesday in the form of a 6-5 win.

Scott Podsednik, who was called up by Boston Tuesday, homered in the eighth inning to extend the Red Sox’ lead to 6-4.

Baltimore would attempt to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the eighth as Wilson Betemit drove in Nick Markakis on a sacrifice fly. But the Orioles’ effort stalled ultimately stalled as they came up a run shy of tying the game.

Daniel Nava and Kelly Shoppach also homered for the Red Sox while Daniel Bard earned the victory on the mound, going 5.1 innings and allowing two runs on five hits.

Alfredo Aceves collected his 11th save of the 2012 season.
