The Red Sox and Yankees were rained out last night in the Bronx, but that didn't stop Boston from extending its wild-card lead over the Rays.
Tampa Bay -- which is playing nearly as poorly as the Sox lately -- fell to 2.5 games behind Boston with a loss at Toronto.
That means Boston's magic number to clinch the playoff spot is four. Any combination of four Sox wins and Rays losses over the remainder of the season is enough to do the job.
With six games left for Boston and five left for Tampa Bay, things are finally looking up.
