Report: Anthony confronts Garnett outside locker room

The on-court rivalry between the Celtics and Knicks took another step up — and off the court — Monday night.

Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony reportedly confronted Celtics star Kevin Garnett outside the Celtics locker room after Boston beat New York, 102-96. MSG reported that Anthony was shouting at Garnett and had to be restrained by teammates, though no physical altercation occurred.

The Daily News reports Anthony again tried to confront Garnett outside the Celtics’ team bus and had to be stopped by security.

MSG showed Anthony leaving the court after the game through the Celtics’ tunnel. Kurt Thomas appeared to put a hand on Anthony to prevent him from doing so, but Anthony kept walking.

The two all stars engaged in an on-court tussle in the fourth quarter as they battled for position on the block. Garnett elbowed Anthony, who returned an elbow himself. The two continued jawing at each other as they walked up the court and were eventually assessed double technical fouls.

Anthony struggled shooting in the loss. He finished with 20 points on 6-of-26 shooting. He did not answer questions after the game.

In fact, most of the participants on both side were quiet about the apparent altercation.

“I’m not even going to comment on that,” Knicks head coach Mike Woodson told reporters of Anthony after the loss. “If you want to talk about the game, we can do that.”

Garnett finished the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

“If it was in the playoffs, I’d tattle on him,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers joked.
