Report: Jets trade Derrick Mason

About that wide receiver meeting …

Just days after it was reported that the Jets’ top three receivers — Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes and Derrick Mason — met with head coach Rex Ryan about being unhappy with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer’s offense, the Houston Chronicle is reporting the Jets have traded Mason to the Texans for a conditional draft pick. He had been benched in this week’s loss to the Patriots, but that was for performance, not the alleged comments he, Holmes and Burress made to Ryan. Ryan and Mason both denied a meeting took place.

“I’ve been in [the NFL] 15 years and I’ve never criticized the offensive coordinator to a head coach — never once,” Mason said.

Mason has just 13 catches for 115 yards on the season and had not been featured prominently in the offense. The Texans recently lost No.-1 receiver Andre Johnson to injury and were looking for help at the position.

Mason had played with the Ravens when Ryan was an assistant and was expected to help replace the production lost by the departure of Jerricho Cotchery.

Details on the draft pick — or conditions of that pick — the Jets received is unknown at this time, but is not expected to be high.
