‘Revenge’ recap: Episode 12, “Infamy”

Tonight finds fake-Em plotting revenge against the author who turned on her father after he sympathetically heard his case and promised little Amanda he’d help him go free. Mason (neé Leo) Treadwell is the author of “Society Connection,” which promulgates David Clarke’s guilt in the downing of that doomed flight. He’s in town for a reading, and of course fake-Em is onto him. She enlists the help of Nolan, and Nolan uses his fame to interest Treadwell in being his biographer. Treadwell happily jumps at the chance.

Queen Victoria’s got her own ideas for how Treadwell should be spending his time. She wants him to interview real-Em (fake Amanda) and find out why she’s really back in the Hamptons after so long. He begrudgingly agrees after Victoria reminds him of a deal they had struck in the past — “a deal with the Devil,” Treadwell calls it.

So Treadwell heads to the Stowaway to chat up real-Em, and at first she’s a little confused, since he’s all like, “Don’t you remember me? I interviewed you awhile back,” and she’s like, “Uh…well…OH YEAH, RIGHT, I AM THAT GIRL YOU INTERVIEWED.” So she plays along and he invites her to his house to be “interviewed for his memoir,” as Victoria orders him to frame it.

Conrad and Victoria’s divorce continues to get as ugly as JLo and Marc’s. He’s looking to divest her of her stock in the company, even though she says the fortune’s pretty much thanks to her work. She reasons that if she can combine her shares with Daniel’s, the two of them will have enough to overpower Conrad and take over Grayson Global. Daniel agrees to the plan and asks to have his trust account reactivated, and Conrad takes the bait. But not so fast! Conrad’s not a gazillionaire for nothing. He knows how the Graysons think. He has the contract amended so that Daniel can only get his trust money by the time he’s thirty OR by the time he gets married.

Treadwell meets with fake-Em and Nolan in his home, where we learn that he’s just got one copy of his memoir lying around. Silly Treadwell doesn’t realize that THIS is the real Amanda he should be after. Anyways, speaking of Amandas, the fake one got kinda skanky tonight at the Stowaway, dancing on the bar and making out with a lady. She’s trying to get Jack to loosen up and he’s not feelin’ it. She’s also pretty jealous of his close friendship with fake-Em. But they’re still on the same team (for now). When real-Em goes to Casa de Treadwell to be interviewed, she’s got fake-Em spitting lines into her ear through an earpiece she rigged with Nolan. This is fake-Em’s way of getting to the bottom of why he didn’t publish her dad’s real story, but of course, she can’t ask him outright so she needs real-Em to do it for her, as “Amanda.”

Meanwhile, back at the Graysons’, Ashley overhears Queen Victoria’s news that Daniel’s trust is off-limits til he’s 30 or married. She tells this to fake-Em, reasoning (roughly) “I’d want to know if my future fiance’s motives are pure.”

So now, the night’s “big event” (there’s always one on the show, be it a clambake, anniversary party, etc.) — Treadwell’s book reading at the Graysons’ house. Treadwell considers spilling the truth about David Clarke (much to the horror of Victoria) and he almost does, but c’mon, did you really think that would happen? He still proclaims David Clarke as guilty, which fake-Em takes like a punch to the gut.

So she gets going on her revenge. It’s been building all these years, and now it’s time to do something about it. Nolan distracts Treadwell with a business dinner about Nolan’s memoir, and while the cat’s away…fake-Em sets fire to Treadwell’s home! Inside burns his sole manuscript (shoulda made a copy), but fake-Em was smart and got all the prison interview tapes with her dad that Treadwell had around the house. She watches the tape in the final scene, and it’s got one killer revelation! See, David tried to prove to Treadwell that his love with Victoria was real, but Treadwell said there was no proof their relationship ever existed. But aha! Maybe there is. Victoria gave birth to a girl, Charlotte, and he instructs Treadwell to ask Victoria who the father is! So, fake-Em and Charlotte might be related! Yowzers!

Next week, according to the previews, we have the big proposal from Danny. I’m pretty sure fake-Em’s gonna accept, since the series pilot was at their engagement party. Til next week, stay vengeful! Or don’t. Probably safer that way.
