Robinson Cano a Fenway juggernaut

On Saturday, another day of home run derby at Fenway Park, Robinson Cano’s shot was the most majestic.

Turning on a pitch from former teammate Alfredo Aceves, Cano launched the ball 450 feet into the right field seats, one of the longest shots in years to land in that part of the 99-year-old ballpark. Cano has made the old yard his personal playground.

“I know I do really good when I play here,” the Yankees’ second baseman said before last night’s late game in Boston.

Cano’s homer was his 11th career blast at Fenway, the most he’s hit in any opponents’ stadium. Entering last night, Cano was batting .455 (20-for-44) with three homers and 10 RBIs in his past 11 games there, dating back to the start of last season.

“I think this park is pretty conducive to Robbie,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “I wouldn’t consider Robbie Cano a pull hitter. I would consider him right-center over to the left-field line. That’s the hitter he’s been. Every once a while he’s going to pull balls with authority. … When he swings the bat, there’s authority behind it.”
