Ryder Cup hopefuls

Half of the press releases that hit my inbox go straight to the trash can icon. Especially those that don’t include the words: Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, Phillies.

However, this one caught my eye Thursday. Forty-three hand-picked high school juniors participated in a Captains’ Clinic Wednesday at the inaugural Ryder Cup Junior Academy in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The school, which runs through Sunday, offers a full week of instruction from former Ryder Cup captains, like Billy Casper, Dow Finsterwald and Hal Sutton.

Two local student-athletes — West Chester’s Daniel Myers and Royersford’s Madison Gilmartin — were in attendance this past week. We wish them the best in their journey to become the next big things on the PGA and LPGA Tours!
