Shalrie Joseph: Revolution captain an MLS All-Star

New England Revolution captain Shalrie Joseph has been named to the MLS All-Star team for the eighth time, the league announced today.

Joseph, who leads the Revs with five goals this year, was placed on the 22-man team that will face English club Manchester United by coach Hans Backe. The All-Stars and ManU will square off on July 27 at Red Bull Arena outside New York (8:30 p.m., ESPN2).

Joseph has played nine seasons for the Revs. He’s the second player in New England history to reach the 20,000-minute mark.

Despite another standout season from their captain, the Revs have struggled. They’re last in the nine-team Eastern Conference with a 3-9-7 record (16 points), and their total of 16 goals in 19 games is the least in MLS.

Landon Donovan, David Beckham and Thierry Henry are among the top names on Backe’s All-Star squad.
