Sixers Notebook: Andre Iguodala makes Olympic team

Andre Iguodala has always been high on Coach K’s radar, so it came as little surprise when the Sixers swingman was nominated to represent USA Basketball at the 2012 London Olympics. The selection is pending final approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee. Of course, that’s just a formality.

Iguodala is the first Sixer to compete in the Olympics since Allen Iverson in 2004. He joins a loaded U.S. roster, including Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Blake Griffin, James Harden, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Love, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony.

“Congrats to Dre,” said coach Doug Collins. “Nobody could be more pleased than I am that he’s starting to get the recognition for being a great player.”

Collins will join Iguodala in London, as he’ll be serving as an analyst for NBC’s Olympic coverage.
