There might be a silver lining in The Worst Collapse in Baseball History (TM).
Jacoby Ellsbury hit two home runs in today’s doubleheader opener against the Yankees, making him the first Red Sox player to post a 30-30 season.
The center fielder has, unquestionably, posted one of the best years in recent memory. But the Sox’ slide could all but disqualify him from MVP consideration. After all, shouldn’t the “most valuable” player in the league be valuable enough to keep his team from completely falling apart?
We’ll see.
