Streak forever stuck on 297

Quarterback Brett Favre had started in an NFL-record 297 straight games dating back to 1992. But a right shoulder injury kept him from extending it to 298.

“The streak ends.”

That was the last part of a Twitter message from a Minnesota Vikings spokesman last night, announcing the team’s inactives before their rescheduled game against the New York Giants.

Quarterback Brett Favre had started in an NFL-record 297 straight games dating back to 1992. But a right shoulder injury kept him from extending it to 298. Colts signal-caller Peyton Manning now holds the longest active streak at 205. He would need to play 5 1/2 years to break Favre’s record.

“I far exceeded my goals,” Favre told reporters last week. “I don’t know if any player comes in and says, ‘Hey, I have a goal of playing 300 straight games.’”
