Season 6 of “Grey’s Anatomy” ended with a shootout at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital. Luckily for fans — and actor Jesse Williams — Dr. Jackson Avery survived.
“It was tough that some characters were killed at the end of Season 6,”?Williams admits. “I had become friends with everybody.”
It was even tougher for the characters, who started this season in counseling sessions.
“I think the tragedy will bring people closer together,” Williams teases.
That translates to more screen time for the 29-year-old actor, who has been elevated to series regular on the hit ABC?medical drama.
“It was very exciting,”?he says of the promotion. “I spent a year discovering my character — we are both very competitive and passionate about winning. Jackson is more stubborn, but also a bit nicer than I am. There are some similarities, but enough differences that make it fun to work on his character. But I didn’t know if I’d stay in the show for a long time or just one episode,” he explains. “I’m very happy and honored [to stay on].”
But reaching full-time status on the series doesn’t mean he’s become any more clued in on what will transpire in the new season. The notorious secrecy surrounding “Grey’s Anatomy” plots remains strong, even for the actors, but Williams is sure of one thing — Jackson will get a girl.
“I don’t know who or when, but I’m sure it will happen soon,”?he says. “I don’t know if it will be a girl from the show or a new character, but I hope to find out soon.”
