Taylor’s future uncertain

It sounded like it could be the final game of his Hall of Fame career as Jets linebacker Jason Taylor took to the podium at Heinz Field on Sunday night. Taylor, who signed a one-year contract with the team this past spring, registered two tackles in the Jets’ AFC championship loss to the Steelers.

Dressed in a grey suit, Taylor held onto the podium for the entirety of his remarks to the media, his voice showing precious little emotion after the Jets 24-19 loss to the Steelers.

The 14-year veteran is arguably the most dominant linebacker of his generation, having spent 12 seasons with AFC East rival Miami. His future with the Jets remains clouded and Taylor did nothing to sort it out.

When asked about his future in New York, Taylor danced around the issue, saying that one hour after a playoff loss is too soon to begin contemplating his future.

“We’ll cross that bridge,” Taylor said. “We’ll see if Rex and Mike want me back.”

In a somewhat long-winded address to the media, Taylor seemed to struggle with words at times, lamenting the fact that this Jets team would never be together again. He said that he wished that the flight back to New Jersey, despite the loss, was longer than one hour, so he could spend more time with his teammates of a year.

“I can’t think of an experience as fun as this,” Taylor said.
