Temple basketball heading to Europe

NCAA Basketball 2013 - VCU vs Temple
Temple is taking its basketball and going overseas.

The Owls men’s hoops team will embark on a 10-day trip to France and Italy. The squad will leave on Aug. 14 and return on Aug. 23. It marks the first foreign tour in Temple basketball history.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said coach Fran Dunphy. “Academically, we plan to educate our student-athletes on the different cultures as well as the history of the cities we are visiting. Basketball-wise, it will give our young squad a chance to form its own chemistry before we begin our first season of competition in the American Athletic Conference. So it is a win-win scenario.”

Temple is coming off a 24-10 season, followed by a third-round exit to Indiana in the NCAA tournament. Eight players are returning from that squad, including junior starters Will Cummings and Anthony Lee.

Temple’s first full practice is scheduled for July 31. They will hold 10 full practices prior to the trip to Europe.
