The Hub Crawl 2/21: ESPN editor offers apology for Lin gaffe

The ESPN editor who was fired for using the phrase “chink in the armor” over the weekend in regard to a story about New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin offered a Mea culpa yesterday in the New York Daily News.

“This had nothing to do with me being cute or punny,” said 28-year-old Anthony Federico. “I’m so sorry that I offended people. I’m so sorry if I offended Jeremy.”

Federico said he had used the phrase “at least 100 times” over the years but ultimately understood why he was let go by the sports network.

Lin had 21 points Monday night in a loss to the last place Nets as Carmelo Anthony returned for New York.

Celtics: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo was suspended two games without pay by the NBA yesterday due to his actions from Sunday’s game at Detroit.

In the third quarter against the Pistons, Rondo angrily tossed the ball at referee Sean Wright after a questionable non-call. Rondo will be eligible to play again on Feb. 28 following the All-Star break.
