TV picks, Fall Preview edition: Your guide to Wednesdays

We're breaking down the TV season day-by-day all this week. Here are the new shows airing on Wednesdays.

"Animal Practice"

Justin Kirk plays a misanthropic veterinarian with a monkey sidekick. If your current Facebook update is some variation on a cute animal picture, video, or inspirational message, set your DVR now.

8 p.m., NBC

"Guys with Kids"

From executive producer Jimmy Fallon comes this comedy about three loving dads who don't want to lose their "dudeness" just because they're wearing Baby Bjorns. Just don't get the baby bottle mixed up with the beer bottle, guys.

Premieres Sept. 26, 8:30 p.m., NBC

"The Neighbors"

So the neighbors in an idyllic suburban neighborhood turn out to be aliens. Don't forget that we once all bought the idea of a vampire, Frankenstein monster and werewolf living the quintessential American life over on Mockingbird Lane.

Premieres Sept. 26, 9:30 p.m., ABC

"Arrow"

As rich party boy-turned-vigilante, Stephen Amell brings depth beyond a broody stare to DC Comics crime fighter Green Arrow. He's also got muscles — the kind of six-pack that could make Ryan Gosling feel flabby — courtesy of the most jaw-droppingly insane workout regiment ever to appear in a television pilot.

Premieres Oct. 10, 8 p.m., The CW

"Chicago Fire"

"Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf brings his crime-of-the-week
storytelling to Chicago, where the heroes are firefighters and
paramedics and the foe is a dramatic inferno — when it's not the
bickering members of the firehouse themselves. Eamonn Walker, Jesse
Spencer and Taylor Kinney star.

Premieres Oct. 10, 10 p.m., NBC

"Nashville"

Connie Britton plays a country queen in the Music City-based soap opera "Nashville." Find out how the non-singer found her voice here.

Premieres Oct. 10, 10 p.m., ABC
