“Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”

SPECIAL. The writers strike of ’07 created dark days for television. But out of the original programming drought came this web series by Joss Whedon, which cast Neil Patrick Harris as a supervillain, Nathan Fillion as his nemesis and Felicia Day as the woman they love. The cult-classic musical comedy receives its TV debut tonight.

9 p.m., The CW

“Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition”

REALITY. Driven stage moms now have extra incentive to bring the crazy behind-the-scenes — in this reality series, their little performers compete for $100,000 and a scholarship to the Joffrey Ballet Young Dancers Program. The “Abby” of the show’s title, of course, is “Dance Moms” star Abby Lee Miller, who serves here as a judge.

Series premiere, 9 p.m., Lifetime

“Sons of Anarchy”

DRAMA. After losing one of their own, Jax wants to get the club involved in prostitution. To our recollection, at least, that is definitely not one of the five stages of grief.

10 p.m., FX

“Jane’s Journey”

DOCUMENTARY. Jane Goodall’s lifelong pursuit of understanding primates and promoting ecological conservation is recalled in this special.

8 p.m., Animal Planet
