“Damages”

DRAMA. Bulldog lawyer Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and protégé Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) face off in the trial of a WikiLeaks-like website’s head troublemaker (Ryan Phillippe). This is the taut legal drama’s final season, and after four years of watching the women’s twisted relationship play out, we can’t imagine it ending any other way.

Season premiere, 9 p.m., DirecTV

“The Franchise”

REALITY. Even if you’re not a baseball fan, it’s endlessly intriguing to watch professional athletes we’ve elevated to super-human status in candid situations. “The Franchise” followed by cameras this season is the Miami Marlins.

Season premiere, 10 p.m., Showtime

“Hit & Miss”

DRAMA. A transsexual contract killer (Chloe Sevigny) is left with custody of a deceased ex-girlfriend’s four children, who live on a farm in Ireland. So it’s the complete opposite of that cutesy “Raising Helen.”

Series premiere, 10 p.m., DirecTV
